Wood Bay Studio
Wood Bay Studio in Titirangi, Auckland normally offers pottery classes for adults and children. Currently adult and children classes are on hold till the Covid-19 situation eases when we will reopen again. Due to the nature of the classes and our small space we shall reevaluate when we are going to reopen for classes. You can email us on email@example.com with expressions of interest to join classes and we can notify you when we are taking bookings again. We offer a range of classes at different times so it’s best to check out the website links above depending on what you want.
Our classes are very relaxed and we learn to ‘play’ and create awesome pieces. Wood Bay Studio is well organized and in a lovely peaceful environment with bird song and cicadas depending on the time of the year. I love the happiness and sense of achievement people get from creating their own amazing projects. On the other hand I am happy to guide people if they are needing ideas whilst teaching them individual skills and extending them. Teaching is always done in a maximum group of seven people so that everyone can be given individualized help. I’d love to share with you my passion of working with pottery! We all inspire each other within the classes and would love you to be part of a class.
Friday mornings have regular 5 week blocks which are ideal to get a few projects done and glaze some items. A 5 week block of Friday mornings 9.30 – 12.00pm are regularly available as are the one off options for Friday nights or you can choose to come for consecutive lessons to consolidate your skills. Read the deals on offer as most include clay, glazes and tuition which makes them very good value.
You will learn different methods of handbuilding with pinch pots, slab work and the basics of joining pottery and using under glazes or pouring or dipping glazes. You can also learn the basics of using a pottery wheel as well. If you have your own ideas of what to make I can help guide you to make your own projects if they are within your skill level. You don’t need to be an artistic or creative person because I help everyone to make pieces they are proud of.
There are regular Friday night classes from 7.00 – 9.30pm, as well which are fun with a glass of bubbles or a beer and nibbles. This is a great way to end the week! You can attend these regularly if you wish and keep creating each week or make the first session and reschedule 3-4 weeks later to glaze your pieces. These sessions are fun and only $50 each night. Class sizes are 7 maximum.
For children aged from 7 years and up, I will hold a classes after school from 3.20 – 5pm with afternoon tea on a Wednesday once the Covid-19 situation has dissipated. I also hold occasional holiday programmes as well. These classes are fun but also great for teaching children basic pottery skills and lifelong skills of focus, perseverance and creativity. Children will get to experience the whole process of pottery with creating and then using underglazes or glazes. I use my previous experience and skills as an enthusiastic and experienced primary school teacher to create a positive encouraging environment with independence encouraged.
