Wood Bay Studio
Book a Daytime Pottery Class or a Shared Artist Space Timeslot
Sorry our classes are not currently occurring. Wood Bay Studio has opportunites for classes in Titirangi, Auckland or Tairua in the Corromandel and usually offers pottery classes for adults and children but at the moment we are currently shut as we are in the throws of renovating our studio and have an injured teacher so will have our classes back online at a later stage. If you need to come and glaze your work please contact us to let us know you are ready to return 021918395 and we will make arrangements for you to do this in some capacity or we will glaze it for you at a charge. We apologise for the inconvenience.
We normally offer a range of classes at different times so it’s best to check out the website links above depending on what you want: day or night with beer and bubbles.
The benefit of attending Wood Bay Studio is that you get to learn the whole process: making and glazing. You get to hand build and use the wheel to make a cup or bowl or several. We believe at the end of the process we want you to feel success and proudly feel that you acheived the whole process yourself and are then set up to complete more projects. Most people make about 3-5 items in the first class and you get to book a second class to come and learn the glazing side of things which is magical and rewarding as well.
If you would prefer individual pottery tuition or want to come as a couple or with a friend or your family this can be arranged so please text Jenny 021918395 to enquire. We also cater for your own gatherings and we often hold birthday parties, hen’s parties, Christmas work functions, your own group of friends or home schooling groups. Just text Jenny on 021 918 395 or email woodbaystudio@gmail.com to find out more information and we will create a package for you.
We look forward to seeing you soon to relax, ‘play’ and create awesome pieces. Wood Bay Studio’s are well organised and in lovely peaceful environments with bird song and cicadas depending on the time of the year. We love the happiness and sense of achievement people get from creating their own amazing projects.
Teaching is always done in a maximum group of eight people (usually seven adults) so that everyone can be given individualized help and because of the smaller space in Tairua classes will be maximum of 5-6 adults or 7-8 children. We’d love to share with you our passion of working with pottery! We all inspire each other within the classes and would love you to be part of a class.
You can come to a one off class to give it a go and then just return in a few weeks to glaze your work or attend random one off sessions or consecutive sessions to fit in with your schedule and consolidate your skills which is ideal to get quite a few projects created and glazed.
There were regular Wednesday night classes from 7.00 – 9.30pm which are fun with a glass of bubbles or a beer. You can attend these regularly if you wish to consolidate your skills and keep creating each week or make the first session and reschedule 4 weeks later to glaze your pieces after your items have dried and been fired the first time). These sessions are fun and only $80 each night. Class sizes are 8 maximum. This includes your clay, glazes and 2 firings.
You will learn different methods depending on which project you choose with handbuilding like pinch pots, slab work and the basics of joining pottery and using under glazes or pouring or dipping glazes. You can also learn the basics of using a pottery wheel as well. If you have your own ideas of what to make we can help guide you to make your own projects if they are within your skill level. You don’t need to be an artistic or creative person because we help everyone to make pieces they are proud of.
At time we have children classes for children aged 7 years and up, there are after school classes from 3.30 – 5pm on Wednesday in Titirangi. We also hold occasional holiday programmes as well. These classes are fun but also great for teaching children basic pottery skills and lifelong skills of focus, perseverance and creativity. Children will get to experience the whole process of pottery with creating and then use underglazes or glazes. We are a group of enthusiastic positive teachers with previous experience and skills in teaching and we encourage creativity and independence.
Tairua Classes: Usually there are regular Saturday afternoon and some Sunday afternoon classes but not at present but are usually held so just text Jenny on 021918395 if you are keen and can’t see some online. You can also get a group of friends together and fill up your own class of 5 minimum.
For both towns if for some reason you should need to reschedule your class we require 72 hours notice as your place needs to be refilled to cover our business costs of a teacher. If for some reason you cancel coming to a class we will refund you your purchase price up to $200 minus a $10 admin fee only if you give us 2 days notice.
